I Can Write

One thing the altMBA taught me…

I can write.  It’s more than just proper grammar and spelling; I take pride in sentence structure and do not rely on spellcheck.  It’s more than an engaging style; I’ve adopted my technique from some pretty accomplished storytellers.  It’s more than content; I have no shortage of thoughts or inspiration.  The altMBA challenged me to write more, dig deeper, think harder, compose better, be vulnerable, be open to constructive criticism, and understand and appreciate the reader for their irrationality and worldviews.  I met deadlines.  I worked with teams that got to the real core of my issues.

The reader is what matters.  They crave insight and education.  They want a good story.  They demand thought.  They appreciate empathy, maybe only subconsciously.  They are consumers of content and providers of feedback.  They will tell you with their action whether your stuff is any good.  Some will move on, some will stay.  The ones that remain are part of your tribe because you write TO them, FOR them, BECAUSE of them.  Write to yourself in a diary, write for others and share it.

I’ve been inspired to contribute, regularly, to my company blog.  I will (more) frequently be communicating with my team.  I am setting a schedule for myself–an aggressive timetable to which I’m (now) confident that I can deliver.  I have a framework with which to more effectively craft a message and present ideas more completely and persuasively.

Thanks to Seth, the coaches, and my new friends at the altMBA, I can write better.
